OUT AND ABOUT – SABOR

At  rhubarb  we are always on the lookout for the newest restaurant openings, latest trends and exciting new venues. In our 'Out and About' feature we share where we’ve been dining out this month…

Founded by Nieves Barragan and José Etura, Sabor takes its name from the Spanish for ‘flavour’ so it will come as no surprise that with its delicious dishes and authentic atmosphere, Sabor has earned its place as one of rhubarb’s hottest restaurants of the season. Nieves and José focus on capturing the unique flavours of Spain as well as showcasing the use of traditional ingredients and cooking methods, with a relaxed approach to dining. Sabor boasts three distinct areas: The Counter and The Bar on the ground floor and the El Asador on the first floor. Each space offers a different taste and experience of Spanish cuisine and hospitality.

Gemma Bacon our Head of Planning paid a visit to this dining hotspot earlier this month and was taken on a journey from Heddon Street in Mayfair to the tapas bars of Andalucía through to the asadors of Castile and the seafood restaurants of Galicia. As one of her new favourite restaurants, Gemma was suitably impressed by the homely, laid-back atmosphere and incredible hospitality from both the front of house staff and the chefs. ‘The transformation from a London eatery to the true feeling of being in Spain is a unique experience that everyone should try!’ Sampling dishes from both upstairs and downstairs, Gemma’s menu highlights included Piquillo Croquetas & Manchego Cheese, Black Tomato, Confit Artichoke & Txistorra, and Presa Ibérica 5 Jotas, Mojo Verde from The Counter; as well as El Astador’s Pulpo a Feira, Tortilla Gallega and Segovian Suckling Pig.

Gemma describes the beauty of the place as somewhere you can pop in for an evening tipple and delicious light bites at the bar, or opt for an indulgent feast in the upstairs El Asador, where the large communal tables overlook an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs preparing suckling pig or cooking octopus in huge copper pans! Gemma thoroughly enjoyed her whole experience at Sabor from the ambience and hospitality to the beautiful space and food journey – she reckons it is well worth a visit and will be going back in a hurry herself!
